In 1997, he became the sports director at WFTX-TV in Fort Myers, Florida, where he covered major events such as hurricanes, brush fires, elections, a Super Bowl, and two shuttle launches. In 2001, he transitioned to news at WZVN-TV & WBBH-TV, also in Fort Myers, expanding his role in the field of journalism.

One of his most challenging assignments was covering the struggle of a close friend and colleague with ALS, Lou Gehrig’s disease, a project that earned him two Florida AP awards.
